Discover Leeds is a proof of concept website created as part of a University Project to produce a tourist-based information website for the city of Leeds. This was a solo project and I worked on everything including: planning, branding, development and testing. You can view the sites code up on Github.

The site comprises of a number of different attributes such as basic login functionality and the ability to favourite a given place. In addition to this, a simple voting system was added to give users more user-generated information about the attraction and a search area was included to provide users with ease of access when manouvering through the site.

The brief

We were essentially tasked with creating a dynamic, information-driven site which would allow users to come along and learn about the different attractions (be they places to eat, sleep or entertain) that the city of Leeds has to offer. Heres a basic summary of the brief:

Leeds Tourist Attractions

Leeds Tourist Board market research indicates that there is a gap in the market for a simple website for visitors to find out about local attractions.

You are invited to create a website prototype that is well-designed, captivates the casual visitor and provides them with tools to plan their day in Leeds. The website must be responsive, i.e. viewable on as many devices as possible. Being a forward-looking organisation, the Tourist Board would also like you to explore what opportunities HTML5 offers their future visitors.

Upon recieving the brief, I began sketching out different layouts and components for my site so that I could begin to piece together how the site make look and therefore function.

Afterwards, I carried on with designing the layout and structure of the site by going into more high fidelity wireframes. While these were still very early concepts and didn’t provide any context, they allowed me to fine tune the sketches and progress to the next stage of the process where I was able to go from these wireframing stages to designing around content

Wireframes which were more focused around content which would more than likely make it to live

The detail within the concept and idea generation stage allowed me to create a website which was fit for consumption and met the brief.
